DAVID MCCREADY OF PORT SENTENCED TO SIX YEARS FOR RAPE IN GREENOCK

A man from Port, David McCready, aged 21, has been sentenced to six years in prison after being convicted of raping two women with whom he was friends.

McCready assaulted one woman at his home in 2012 and another on the Greenock waterfront in 2014.

An additional charge of raping a different woman at his flat in 2014 was brought but was found not proven.

During the sentencing at the High Court in Glasgow, Judge Kenneth McIver ordered that McCready be monitored for a year following his release and placed on the Sex Offenders Register.

Addressing McCready, the judge stated: "You raped two young women, both of whom were your friends before the offences.

You exploited that friendship for sexual gain.

In the case of your second victim, you had already been accused of rape by two young women." The judge continued: "Friendship turned into sexual violence.

You simply decided that sex would occur, regardless of your victims’ feelings or wishes." He also noted that McCready had shown no remorse and claimed that he was the victim of false allegations: "You have expressed no remorse for your actions and say you are the victim of false allegations by your victims." McCready’s first victim was raped in October 2012, while the second assault took place on November 16, 2014.
