WORKINGTON SEX OFFENDER FAILS TO ESCAPE POLYGRAPH ORDER
A high-risk sex offender from Workington has failed to overturn a court order that requires him to take lie detector tests.
The offender, David Mawson, aged 41, was previously jailed for downloading indecent images of children, including one of a three-year-old being abused.
Last year, Mawson received a ten-month prison sentence after a judge deemed him not rehabilitated.
He was also subject to a sexual harm prevention order, which bans contact with children, restricts online activities, and mandates polygraph testing with a week's notice.
Mawson has a history of sexual interest in children and animals, breaches of previous orders, and providing false information to police.
His risk level was reassessed from medium to high in May 2021, and police sought to use polygraph tests to better evaluate his risk and protect the public.
Mawson's appeal was rejected by Judge Michael Fanning, who emphasized his continued deception and concerning patterns of sexual interest.
His sexual harm prevention order will remain until September 2029, and he was ordered to pay part of the costs of the appeal.
