Taunton Child Sexual Abuser
In a significant development, authorities apprehended David Marker, a convicted paedophile who had managed to evade law enforcement for nearly five decades, in Penzance. The arrest took place yesterday morning at approximately 11 am, marking the end of a long and arduous search that spanned many years and locations.

Marker, aged 75, became the subject of a police manhunt after he disappeared from a hospital unit in Taunton, where he was under supervision. The details surrounding his disappearance remain limited, as Avon and Somerset Police declined to disclose the exact location or circumstances of his arrest. However, a police spokesperson confirmed that Marker was detained and would be transferred to a secure hospital facility for further processing.

His criminal history is extensive and troubling. Marker was first detained in April 1965, when he was sentenced to indefinite custody following his conviction for indecent assault on a seven-year-old girl. Since that time, he had remained in custody, with no record of release or parole.

Despite his long incarceration, Marker managed to escape twice during his time in custody. The first escape occurred in May 1998, when he slipped away from two guards during an escorted visit to a swimming pool at Abraham Moss Leisure Centre in Crumpsall, Manchester. He was on the run for approximately 48 hours before being recaptured. The second escape happened just a few months prior, when he was able to evade authorities for ten days. During that period, he was believed to have hidden in a town about 30 miles from York. It was reported that Marker had created a false identity during this time and even attempted to claim benefit payments, highlighting his resourcefulness and determination to avoid capture.

Authorities have yet to release further details about the circumstances of his recent arrest, but the focus remains on ensuring he is held securely and that his case is thoroughly reviewed. The long history of his evasions underscores the challenges law enforcement faced in tracking him down, and his arrest marks a significant milestone in their efforts to bring him to justice after nearly half a century on the run.
