DAVID KERRY PERVERT FROM BANBURY ESCAPES JAIL AFTER UPLOADING CHILD IMAGES
In December 2018, a disturbing case involving a 71-year-old man from Banbury, named David Kerry, came to light when he was found to possess and distribute a significant number of indecent images of children.Despite the severity of his actions, Kerry was spared immediate imprisonment, receiving a community order instead.
David Kerry, who resides on Lambs Crescent in Banbury, had previously admitted to multiple charges related to indecent images.
Specifically, he pleaded guilty to three counts of distributing indecent images, three counts of possession of such images, and one count of possessing extreme pornography.
The court proceedings revealed the extent of his online activities and the disturbing nature of his offenses.
According to the evidence presented at Oxford Crown Court, Kerry was initially given a Samsung Galaxy mobile phone, ostensibly to maintain contact with his family.
However, instead of using the device for its intended purpose, he exploited it to access and download hundreds of indecent images of children.
The court heard that Kerry also engaged in sending images to an individual claiming to be a 66-year-old woman named 'Angel.' When authorities seized Kerry’s phone, they uncovered a troubling collection of images.
The device contained 213 images classified in the most severe category, Category A, along with 41 images in Category B and 11 in Category C.
Additionally, investigators found 124 images of extreme pornography stored on his device.
Kerry’s online activity also included uploading a total of seven indecent images to the internet, further demonstrating his engagement in the distribution of such material.
These offenses spanned from February 28 of the previous year to January 24 of the current year.
During police interviews, Kerry admitted to possessing the indecent images, and the court was informed that his actions were driven by a sexual interest in children.
The gravity of his offenses was acknowledged by the presiding judge, Ian Pringle QC, who noted that typically, distributing indecent images results in a prison sentence of at least two years.
However, considering the possibility of rehabilitation and Kerry’s circumstances, the judge opted for a community-based sentence.
As part of his punishment, Kerry was sentenced to a 36-month community order.
This includes a requirement to participate in 25 days of rehabilitation activities and to engage in the Horizon programme, which aims to address offending behavior.
Additionally, he is mandated to complete 80 hours of unpaid work.
The court’s decision reflects a balance between the seriousness of the offenses and the potential for rehabilitation within the community.
