DAVID KEMP AND SHOCKING CHILD SEX OFFENCE IN KENT
A man from Chatham, Kent, who engaged in disturbing and illegal activities targeting a minor, has been sentenced to three years in prison. The individual, identified as David Kemp, was brought before Maidstone Crown Court on Wednesday, 1 November 2023, where he pleaded guilty to serious charges related to child sexual offences.
Kemp’s arrest was carried out by officers from Kent Police’s Paedophile Online Investigation Team at Strood Train Station on Wednesday, 13 April 2022.
The investigation that led to his apprehension revealed that Kemp had been involved in sexually explicit online conversations with a girl he believed to be only 13 years old.
These conversations took place over a period from 4 April to 13 April, during which Kemp also sent explicit images to the girl.
The case took a further turn when Kemp, aged 40 and residing on Silverweed Road in Chatham, traveled to Medway with the apparent intention of meeting the girl in person.
His plans were thwarted when he was arrested at the scene, preventing any potential harm.
Detective Constable Lise Roots, who led the investigation, emphasized the proactive approach taken by law enforcement.
She stated, ‘We proactively target people who seek to commit sexual offences against children and, in this case, the evidence was overwhelming.
By travelling to a prearranged meeting, Kemp has shown he poses a significant risk to children.
The prison sentence is entirely justified and he will be also required to comply with the terms of a Sexual Harm Prevention Order on his release.’ This case underscores the ongoing efforts by Kent Police to combat online child exploitation and protect vulnerable minors from predators.
Kemp’s conviction and subsequent sentencing serve as a stark reminder of the serious consequences faced by those who engage in such criminal conduct.
