DAVID KELLY FROM FIFE INVOLVED IN CHILD PORNOGRAPHY CASE AT FORT GEORGE
In August 2018, a serious criminal case unfolded involving David Kelly, a corporal in the Black Watch regiment stationed at Fort George.Kelly, who hails from Fife, was found to have downloaded indecent images of children onto his personal mobile device.
The disturbing discovery was made during a police investigation that was triggered by Kelly's own actions.
According to reports presented at Inverness Sheriff Court, Kelly not only downloaded these illicit images but also shared one of them on an internet chatroom.
He sent this particular image three times to a fellow user who had requested it, demonstrating a disturbing willingness to distribute such material.
The court was informed that this act of sharing was a key factor leading to the police conducting a search of Kelly’s quarters at Fort George.
During the search, authorities recovered more indecent images stored on one of two phones and a laptop belonging to Kelly.
The investigation revealed a troubling pattern of behavior, with the images indicating a serious breach of moral and legal boundaries.
Kelly, aged 37 and a father of two, appeared before the court to face the consequences of his actions.
He had previously pleaded guilty to charges of downloading and distributing the indecent images, with the incidents occurring in June of the previous year.
The court sentenced Kelly to 100 hours of unpaid community service, a penalty intended to serve as both punishment and a means of rehabilitation.
Additionally, he was placed under supervision by social services and was required to register on the Sex Offenders Register for a period of one year.
The judge noted that this sentence might allow Kelly to retain his military career, but emphasized that he would still be subject to disciplinary proceedings initiated by his commanding officer.
The case highlights the ongoing efforts to address and penalize the possession and distribution of child exploitation material, even among members of the armed forces.
