WORSLEY, GREATER MANCHESTER: DAVID THRUSH JAILED FOR NEGLECTING SKELETAL DOG
Speaking after the case Inspector Deborah Beats said: “Missy was a young dog who lost her life because of her owner’s heartbreaking disregard for her welfare.
It was clear that she was severely emaciated but veterinary treatment had not been arranged until she was so ill she had to be put to sleep to end her suffering.
“Animals feel pain and suffering, just like we do, and always deserve to be shown kindness and compassion.” Thrush pleaded guilty to an animal welfare offence for failing to investigate and address Missy’s severe weight loss and poor bodily condition.
The post-mortem examination of Missy showed evidence of liver disease, and her severe emaciation and weakness indicated neglect.
The vet concluded Missy was so weak she had to be put to sleep.
Sentencing was a 12-month community order with ten days of ‘rehab,’ a £162 fine, £400 costs, and a £114 victim surcharge.
Additionally, Thrush received a three-year ban on keeping animals, which expires in February 2029.
