In June 2021, a paedophile from South Ockendon was found to have over 200 images of child abuse on his electronic devices. These images were discovered incidentally when police officers conducted a search following his arrest for an unrelated offence. In April 2018, authorities seized mobile phones, DVDs, and CDs from the home of 56-year-old David Johnson. Upon examination of these devices, almost 250 images of child sexual abuse material were uncovered.
Johnson, of Buckles Lane, South Ockendon, was later charged and appeared at Basildon Crown Court. He admitted to three counts of possessing indecent images of children and two counts of making such images. He was subsequently sentenced to 13 months in prison. Additionally, he was handed a ten-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order and was placed on the Sex Offenders' Register for a decade.
