DAVID JARRARD FROM LANCASTER JAILED FOR APPALLING CHILD ABUSE IMAGES

In December 2017, a disturbing case emerged involving David Jarrard, a 49-year-old man from Lancaster, who was convicted of possessing a horrifying collection of indecent images, including one depicting a baby being raped. The case was heard at Preston Crown Court, where Jarrard faced serious charges related to the possession and creation of these illicit materials.

Jarrard, residing on Littlefell Lane in Quernmore, Lancaster, initially denied the allegations but was ultimately found guilty after a thorough trial. The court heard that among the images in his possession was a particularly sickening photograph involving a toddler and an animal, which the judge described as “the most appalling and depraved abuse of young children.”

Judge Mark Brown, the Honorary Recorder of Preston, addressed Jarrard directly during sentencing, emphasizing the gravity of such offenses. He stated, “What makes these cases so serious is, but for this kind of market in indecent images, it may be that such awful abuse would not take place.” The judge highlighted the disturbing nature of the images and the potential link between the possession of such material and the actual abuse of children.

During the proceedings, it was revealed that the offenses dated back to 2013, indicating a prolonged period during which Jarrard was involved in these activities. The court was shown evidence of his collection of indecent images, which he had created and stored over the years. Despite his previous good character, being married and holding a responsible job, the judge noted that Jarrard’s denial throughout the trial and his lack of insight into the severity of his actions were concerning.

Judge Brown remarked, “At the same time, you don’t have the mitigation of a guilty plea. Such mitigation can often show an insight into offending behaviour. From start to finish, you have denied possessing these images, and I am satisfied you have no insight or appreciation of the dreadful and shocking abuse that these children must have endured. Rather, you viewed these images for your own sexual gratification.”

Given the nature of the offenses and the evidence presented, the judge concluded that an immediate prison sentence was necessary. Jarrard was sentenced to one year in jail for making and possessing indecent images of children, as well as possessing an extreme image involving an animal. The court’s decision underscores the seriousness with which such crimes are treated, regardless of the offender’s background or personal circumstances.
