EXETER MAN JAILED FOR TERRIFYING STALKING CAMPAIGN THAT FORCED WOMAN TO FLEE THE COUNTRY
A man who harassed his former partner for four months has been sentenced to prison after a relentless campaign of intimidation compelled her to leave the country to escape him.David Hill inundated the woman with thousands of phone calls, messages, and emails, causing her such distress that she required psychiatric treatment.
She even returned to her parents’ home in Hungary to avoid him, especially after Hill continued sending messages or peering into the window of the food shop where she was employed in Exeter.
He was arrested and released on four separate occasions, only remaining in custody after authorities discovered he was planning to travel to Hungary with a suitcase and a booked flight to pursue her.
The woman ended her relationship with him in May after he assaulted her and struck her twice in the face within the past seven weeks.
Despite a non-molestation order and strict bail conditions, Hill refused to accept her decision and persisted in attempting to contact her, overwhelming her with various messages.
The 30-year-old, of Tudor Street, Exeter, pleaded guilty to charges of stalking, witness intimidation, two counts of battery, and two violations of a non-molestation order.
Judge David Evans at Exeter Crown Court sentenced him to 14 months in prison and imposed a restraining order prohibiting any further contact with his ex-partner.
