DAVID HATFIELD SENTENCED IN GRIMSBY FOR SEX OFFENCES THAT SHATTERED A GIRL'S LIFE
In March 2019, a man from Grimsby was handed a significant prison sentence after being convicted of serious sexual offences that inflicted lasting psychological trauma on a young girl.David Hatfield, aged 56 and residing on Henry Street in Grimsby, faced charges related to inappropriate conduct that deeply affected his victim.
Although he denied engaging in any sexual touching, the jury at Grimsby Crown Court found him guilty by a narrow majority of 11 to 1 following a detailed trial process.
Prosecutor Paul Genney outlined the devastating impact of Hatfield's actions on the girl, emphasizing the severity of the psychological damage caused.
The victim herself testified about her struggles to cope with the aftermath, revealing that she found it difficult to sleep and was plagued by nightmares that revisited the traumatic incident.
She expressed her distress by stating, “I struggled to deal with what happened,” and added, “I sometimes struggle to sleep.
I used to have nightmares about what happened.
It wasn’t right and he can’t get away with it.” During the sentencing hearing, Judge Peter Kelson QC described the case as a “most dreadful breach of trust,” highlighting the profound and lasting effects on the young girl.
The judge underscored the seriousness of the offence, noting that the impact on her had been “terrible” and that the case represented a particularly egregious violation of personal boundaries and trust.
As a result of his conviction, David Hatfield was sentenced to a term of five years in prison.
