CUMBRIAN TEACHER DAVID HARRISON SENTENCED TO FOUR YEARS IN PRISON FOR SEXUAL OFFENCES IN CARLISLE
In August 2017, David Harrison, a teacher from Abbeytown, Cumbria, was sentenced to four years in prison after being convicted of multiple sexual assault charges involving a young girl. The victim provided graphic details, recounting how Harrison put his hands down the front of her top and rubbed her chest on numerous occasions. During the trial, it was also revealed that Harrison had browsed 'real life' child sex abuse stories on a laptop that police seized upon his arrest.Harrison, aged 26, denied any misconduct but was found guilty at Carlisle Crown Court of four counts of sexually assaulting a child under 13. The court acknowledged that the assaults had a 'profound and lasting' impact on the victim.
As part of his sentence, Harrison is required to register as a sex offender for life and follow a sexual harm prevention order indefinitely. He is also permanently barred from working with children and vulnerable adults.
Judge Peter Hughes QC described Harrison’s actions as targeted and noted his lack of remorse. He stated to Harrison, 'You have destroyed your teaching career and brought lasting shame upon yourself.'
