TYRONE MAN JAILED FOR DECADES-OLD CHILD SEXUAL ABUSE
A man from Artigarvan, Tyrone, has been sentenced to eight years in prison for committing serious sexual offenses against a 14-year-old girl.
The offender, 45-year-old David Haire, was convicted of one rape charge and two indecent assault counts related to abuse that took place between 2000 and 2002.
The sentencing took place at Dungannon Crown Court, where Haire was also subject to a Sexual Offences Protection Order and will be listed on the sex offenders register for an indefinite period.
Detective Chief Inspector Claire McDonald described Haire as a manipulative offender who coercively engaged with his victim over several years, convincing her that she was at fault for the abuse and using threats to maintain control.
She highlighted the victim’s bravery for reporting the crimes.
The court’s judgment emphasizes the seriousness of Haire’s offenses and their long-lasting effect on the survivor.
