DAVID GORMAN EXETER PERVERT ESCAPES PRISON AFTER PUBLIC INDECENCY INCIDENT
In July 2016, a disturbing case involving David Gorman, a 51-year-old resident of Beacon Lane in Exeter, drew significant attention from local authorities and the community.Gorman was found guilty of committing an act that outraged public decency by exposing himself in a public space, an incident that took place in a local park frequented by families and children.
According to court reports, Gorman approached several children in the park, engaging them with inappropriate and sexual comments.
The situation escalated when he proceeded to expose himself and engaged in acts of masturbation in front of the children, causing distress and alarm among witnesses.
The court was informed that Gorman's actions were deliberate and targeted, with the intent to shock and offend.
Gorman's criminal history includes a conviction from 2010, when he was caught driving his mobility scooter while nearly three times over the legal alcohol limit.
It was noted that Gorman has been disabled since 1984, a consequence of an injury sustained during military training while serving in the armed forces.
Despite his prior conviction, Gorman was not sentenced to prison this time.
Instead, the court imposed a 12-month conditional discharge, meaning he would avoid jail provided he did not commit any further offenses within that period.
Additionally, Gorman was ordered to pay a fine of £100 as compensation.
The decision has sparked discussions within the community about the adequacy of the punishment for such serious public decency violations, especially involving vulnerable children.
