IRISH RAPIST CONCEALED PAST, ATTACKED WOMEN IN UK, GETS PRISON SENTENCE
David Geraghty, a convicted Irish rapist, who began a new life in England and married a woman unaware of his criminal past, was sentenced to prison after he committed further offenses.
Geraghty, originally from Anneville, County Meath, had been jailed in Ireland in 1986 for seven sexual assaults, including rape, and later moved to England without revealing his criminal history.
He created a new identity, worked in a pub in Hammersmith, and eventually married in April 1992, living peacefully with his wife and two young children in Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk.
However, his past resurfaced when he attacked a pregnant 16-year-old girl in April 1994, grabbing her from behind and forcing her over a fence, attempting to rape her.
He was also caught after raping a French student hitchhiking near Horringer, where he subjected her to a brutal 45-minute assault, raping her twice vaginally and anally.
Geraghty pleaded guilty to the charges of raping the French woman and attempting to rape the teenage girl, leading to a sentence of four years in the UK.
Mr.
Justice Blofeld at Ipswich Crown Court sentenced him to an indeterminate term with a minimum of ten years before parole could be considered.
The judge expressed concerns about his unstable character and potential for future offenses, stating that Geraghty targeted young women and had a historical pattern of sexual violence.
