DAVID GAZZARD SHOCKS ST LEONARDS WITH SEXUAL ACT IN FRONT OF YOUNG GIRLS
In a disturbing incident that has shocked the community of St Leonards, David Gazzard, a 55-year-old resident of Whatlington Way, was found guilty of engaging in a sexual act in his own garden while two young girls could clearly see him from an upstairs window of a nearby house.Gazzard appeared before Lewes Crown Court on Monday, October 6, after previously admitting guilt during an earlier hearing.
The court sentenced him to a year in prison, but the sentence was suspended for two years, meaning he will not serve time unless he commits another offence within that period.
Additionally, Gazzard was ordered to register as a sex offender for the next ten years, a measure designed to monitor and restrict his activities to protect the community.
The incident took place on the evening of July 20 of the same year.
Witnesses reported seeing Gazzard performing a sexual act in his backyard, fully aware that two young girls were at the upstairs window of a nearby residence.
The girls, understandably distressed by what they saw, confided in their mother, who promptly contacted the police.
Law enforcement officers responded swiftly, arresting Gazzard later that night.
Detective Constable Barry Chandler commented on the case, stating, “This was a very deliberate and blatant offence by Gazzard, and the two youngsters were most distressed.
However, he has now been brought to justice, and the sentence sends a clear message to him and the wider community that such behaviour will not be tolerated.” The case has sparked concern among residents of St Leonards, emphasizing the importance of vigilance and community safety in the area.
Authorities have reiterated their commitment to protecting vulnerable individuals and ensuring that offenders are held accountable for their actions.
