ARBROATH MAN DAVID FERGUSON JAILED FOR DECADE-LONG DOMESTIC ABUSE CAMPAIGN
David Ferguson, a man from Arbroath, was sentenced to 26 months in prison after being found guilty in a court of serious domestic abuse offences spanning over a decade. The court heard that Ferguson subjected multiple women to a campaign of violence, including abducting one victim and leaving her with permanent scars.
Witnesses described instances where he would repeatedly throttle women, causing them to struggle for breath, as part of a controlling and coercive environment.
Sheriff Gillian Wade expressed concern about Ferguson's high risk level and the serious nature of the offenses, which began on January 1, 2005, and continued until 2017.
He was convicted of assaulting Pauline Myles on various occasions between January 2005 and June 2006, including seizing and throttling her, punching her and leaving her injured and disfigured.
Additionally, he was convicted of abducting her in December 2006, by locking her in a house and ripping her clothes during a violent struggle.
Ferguson was also found guilty of assaulting Hayley Adams between June 2010 and November 2012, including kicking her and forcing her face into a mattress, and of attacking Lynsey Smale over the period 2015-2017 with pushes, throttling, stamping, and locking her out.
Despite attempts by his counsel to downplay his actions, the court noted his continued denial of the full extent of his abuse.
Ferguson faced a sentence of two years and two months with a further nine months supervision upon release.
The police praised the victims' bravery in coming forward, and Detective Inspector Muriel Fuller highlighted that the case sent a clear message that domestic abuse will be thoroughly investigated.
The court also imposed a nine-month supervised release to follow his imprisonment.
