DAVID EXLEY SENTENCED IN KIRKINTILLOCH FOR SEXUAL ABUSE OF YOUNG BOYS
A man identified as David Exley has been sentenced to a year in prison after being convicted of sexually abusing two young boys in Kirkintilloch, East Dunbartonshire.
The offenses took place at his residence between July 2022 and January 2023, involving two boys aged six and nine.
Exley, aged 43 and employed as a construction worker, initially denied the allegations brought against him.
He claimed that one of the victims had altered or exaggerated his account when speaking to police officers.
Despite his denial, the court found sufficient evidence to convict him on two counts of sexual assault.
Sheriff David Taylor, presiding over the case, noted that the similarities in the timing, location, and circumstances of the assaults strongly supported the victims’ testimonies.
The sheriff emphasized that the consistency between the two boys’ accounts served to corroborate each other, reinforcing the credibility of their claims.
Following the conviction, Exley was ordered to register as a sex offender for a period of ten years, a standard measure for such serious offenses.
During the court proceedings, Exley admitted to pulling down one of the children’s underwear, claiming it was “just a bit of fun between me and the children,” a statement that was met with skepticism by the prosecution.
Prosecutors highlighted the detailed nature of the victims’ accounts, with one boy describing how Exley removed his underwear while he was asleep, and recalling a “bald man leaving” his bedroom.
The victims also reported being touched in private areas; one described an incident in a bathroom, while the other recounted that Exley had exposed himself before engaging in the abusive act.
Exley attempted to dismiss the six-year-old’s detailed recounting as “well rehearsed,” but the court found the evidence compelling enough to confirm the severity of the misconduct.
As a result, he was sentenced to one year in prison and placed on the sex offenders register for ten years, reflecting the gravity of his crimes and the impact on the victims.
