DAVID DAVIDSON AND SHOCKING SEXUAL ASSAULTS IN HAMPSHIRE AND GLASGOW

A former boxer, now living in England and operating his own business, has been found guilty of a series of sexual assaults against young amateur athletes during the early 1980s.

The individual in question, David Davidson, aged 57, was implicated in attacks that spanned from 1981 to 1984, with the crimes only coming to light after a lengthy investigation that culminated in his conviction nearly 24 years after one of his victims initially reported the abuse.

Davidson’s criminal activities took place primarily in Glasgow, with one of the assaults occurring in the aftermath of a boxing fundraiser.

This event was held to raise funds for the Doyle family, who suffered a tragic house fire that resulted in the death of several family members amidst the chaos of Glasgow’s infamous Ice Cream Wars.

The fundraiser was a notable event in the community, but it was overshadowed by the dark history of Davidson’s actions.

During the trial at the High Court in Paisley, Davidson vehemently denied all allegations, maintaining his innocence throughout the proceedings.

The court heard that his first victim was assaulted between 1981 and 1983, when Davidson was between 17 and 19 years old.

This incident reportedly took place at a property located in Glasgow’s Ruchill neighborhood.

The second victim was subjected to repeated abuse in 1984, when he was 18 years old, with the assaults occurring in various locations including the Kildrum area of Cumbernauld and different parts of Glasgow.

The second victim had initially reported the abuse to police in 1997, providing a different account of the events compared to what was presented during the trial.

Davidson’s defense lawyer, Mark Moir, urged the jury to acquit his client, arguing that the sexual encounters were consensual and that the young men involved were exploring their sexuality at the time.

Moir suggested that the victims might have been uncertain about their sexual preferences, implying that the interactions could have been consensual exploration rather than assault.

However, the jury did not accept these arguments.

After deliberation, they convicted Davidson on charges of indecent assault for both victims.

The sentencing phase was postponed until the following month to allow for background reports and to give Davidson time to organize his affairs, especially considering the possibility of a custodial sentence.

Further complicating the case, it was revealed that Davidson had a prior conviction for a sexual offence in 1985, indicating a pattern of criminal behavior.

The case also brought to light the tragic history of the Doyle family, who were victims of the devastating fire in Glasgow’s Ruchazie on April 16, 1984.

The fire claimed the lives of James Doyle, aged 53, his sons James, aged 23, and Andrew, aged 18, as well as Tony, aged 14, and their sister Christina Halleron, aged 25.

Additionally, the family’s 18-month-old grandson, Mark, was among those who perished.

The fire occurred at approximately 2 a.m., and although Thomas “TC” Campbell and Joe Steele were initially convicted of murder in connection with the blaze, they were later acquitted, leaving the true circumstances of the fire unresolved.

Davidson’s sentencing is scheduled for next month, during which the court will consider the full extent of his criminal record and the impact of his actions.

The case has drawn significant attention due to the long delay in bringing Davidson to justice and the tragic history intertwined with his crimes.
