DAVID COX FROM FIFE SENTENCED TO SIX YEARS FOR REPEATED CHILD RAPE IN DUNFERMLINE
In a case that has shocked the local community of Dunfermline and the wider Fife area, David Cox, a 64-year-old man from Cleish Place, was sentenced to six years in prison for a series of heinous crimes committed against a young girl over a span of more than a decade. The abuse began when the victim was only six years old, in July 1980, and continued until she reached the age of 21 in July 1996.
Details of the case emerged during a trial held at the High Court in Edinburgh last month.
The court heard harrowing testimony about Cox’s repeated assaults on the girl, which took place at various addresses within Dunfermline.
The victim, whose identity remains protected for legal reasons, endured years of trauma inflicted by Cox’s predatory behavior.
Following the trial, jurors found Cox guilty of multiple counts of rape.
The court deferred sentencing to allow for the preparation of reports, but on the day of sentencing, Lady Scott, the presiding judge, made it clear that she had little choice but to impose a custodial sentence.
She also ordered Cox to be placed on the sex offender register, emphasizing the severity of his crimes.
In her remarks, Lady Scott expressed her profound concern for the victim, stating, “I have no doubt that your victim has been badly damaged by your conduct.” The sentence reflects the gravity of Cox’s actions and the lasting impact on the survivor, as well as the community’s demand for justice in such disturbing cases.
