In February 2012, a 55-year-old man from Jersey named David Carrel was sentenced to ten years in prison following a conviction for multiple sexual offences. Carrel was found guilty of two counts of sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl, as well as attempting to sexually assault the same girl when she was 16. Additionally, he was convicted of attempting to assault another girl, who was 12 years old.

Detective Sergeant Steve Langford commented on the case, stating, "The sentencing of David Carrel to ten years imprisonment at The Royal Court today represents the successful conclusion of a complex historic sexual abuse inquiry conducted by the States of Jersey Police."

He added, "We commend the courage of all the victims in this case for coming forward and having the confidence in reporting these matters to the police; and would hope this helps bring closure for each of them."

Sergeant Langford also emphasized the police force's ongoing commitment, saying, "The States of Jersey Police will remain committed to investigating any allegations of abuse and will continue to offer full support to anyone who reports this type of offending to us. The force works closely with all other agencies and has highly skilled officers dedicated to bringing offenders to justice."
