FIFE RAPIST SENTENCED TO SIX YEARS AFTER VICTIM SUFFERS FLASHBACKS
A sex attacker who raped two women was sentenced to six years in prison after leaving one victim with severe flashbacks.David Callan, aged 33, committed assaults at various addresses in Fife, including his previous residence in St Kilda Crescent, Kirkcaldy.
During a trial at the High Court in Edinburgh, it was revealed that one woman repeatedly told Callan she did not consent, but he raped her nonetheless.
His offenses spanned from April 2015 to March 2020, involving locations in Glenrothes and Glasgow, with one incident occurring while the victim was sleeping.
Another woman was attacked and raped in March 2020 when he pushed and restrained her on a bed despite her saying 'no'.
Callan denied the charges but was found guilty of three rapes and one assault.
The judge, Alison Stirling, emphasized that custody was the only appropriate sentence given the seriousness of the crimes, highlighting the impact on victims, including suffering anxiety and flashbacks.
Callan was placed on the Sex Offenders Register indefinitely.
His defense argued that he did not commit the offenses and highlighted his employment history and efforts to do casual work post-pandemic.
The court acknowledged his limited prior offending record and absence of substance misuse.
The sentencing aimed to serve punishment, protect the public, and facilitate rehabilitation.
