Highworth Child Sexual Abuser
In a disturbing case that has shocked the local community, David Bullock, a man with ties to Highworth, has been sentenced to a significant prison term following revelations of serious sexual misconduct and possession of indecent images involving children. The incidents span over several years, with the most recent sentencing taking place at Swindon Crown Court.
It was revealed that Bullock, aged 53 at the time of sentencing, had a troubling history of abusing a young girl who was a member of the West Berks Rollers, a roller-dancing club that frequently trained at the Link Centre. The victim, now in her 40s and a mother herself, recounted how Bullock, who was in his early 20s during the abuse, repeatedly engaged in inappropriate behavior towards her when she was between nine and 12 years old in the late 1980s.
According to court reports, the victim was a dedicated athlete, often staying at the Bullock family’s home before traveling to weekend training sessions in Milton Keynes. The abuse reportedly began when she was around 11 years old, with Bullock waking her by crouching beside her bed. She described how he would take her hand and place it on his genitals, kiss her all over her body, and then stare at her. She also recounted that he would flick her breasts during training sessions and, on at least one occasion, touched her between the legs over her clothing.
When she confided in a friend about the abuse, the information eventually reached her parents. The Bullocks, upon learning of the allegations, promised to keep their son away from young girls. Despite this, Bullock reappeared at the club shortly afterward, assisting with activities before eventually focusing on his ice skating pursuits and moving away from the area. Court proceedings revealed that Bullock’s parents, who ran one of the clubs she attended, believed they had taken steps to protect other children, but evidence suggested Bullock continued to interact with young girls after his return.
Bullock, of Downs View, Highworth, pleaded guilty to two counts of indecent assault and two counts of indecency with a child. His criminal history includes a previous conviction in 1997, when he was jailed for six months after police discovered over 18,000 indecent images of children on his computer. That sentence was later reduced to a community order on appeal. The images included photographs of a child under three years old, highlighting the severity of his offenses.
During the sentencing, Judge Jason Taylor QC emphasized the gravity of Bullock’s actions, stating, “You were a figure of authority to her and somebody she would have looked up to, given her passion for the sport and her dedication to train, and she would have been vulnerable to you. You realized she was an easy target, and you prioritized your own sexual gratification over her welfare. While you did not go as far as other offenders might, it has had a devastating effect on her.”
In addition to the prison sentence, Bullock was handed a lifelong sexual harm prevention order and was ordered to register as a sex offender. The court’s decision underscores the serious nature of his crimes and the ongoing risk he poses to the community. The case has left a lasting impact on the victim, who has spoken out about the trauma she endured, and serves as a stark reminder of the importance of safeguarding vulnerable children from predators in the area of Highworth and beyond.
