KNOTTINGLEY MAN JAILED FOR CHILD GROOMING AFTER TRYING TO MEET TEEN FOR SEX
A man named David Brown, aged 36, who had been communicating with what he believed was a 13-year-old boy from Manchester via WhatsApp, has admitted to attempting to meet the minor for sex.Brown, who had recently gone through a divorce, engaged in a sexualized online conversation with a fake profile created by an individual aiming to trap sex offenders.
The Leeds Crown Court heard that on January 29, 2022, Brown asked to move the chat to WhatsApp, and subsequent messages included explicit images and propositions.
He discussed sexual activity and expressed a desire to meet at his grandmother's house.
After traveling to the address, he was met by the profile's owner and others, and police were contacted.
During transport, Brown admitted to police, saying 'I have f***** up.' He pleaded guilty to attempting to meet a child under 16 for sexual purposes and communicating sexually with a minor, despite having no prior convictions.
The court sentenced him to a year in prison, with release on license after six months, and ordered registration as a sex offender for ten years.
Additionally, a ten-year sexual harm prevention order was issued against him.
