DAVID BLOOMFIELD SENTENCED IN COXHEATH FOR SEXUAL OFFENCES INVOLVING YOUNG GIRLS
In February 2015, David Bloomfield, aged 62, was handed a significant prison sentence following a retrial at Maidstone Crown Court. The court found him guilty of multiple serious sexual offences committed against two young girls during the period from February 2011 to May 2012.Bloomfield, who previously resided at The Beacons in Coxheath, had initially gained the trust of his young victims through seemingly innocent gestures such as cuddling them and allowing them to play computer games. These actions, which appeared to be friendly and benign, were later exploited by Bloomfield to carry out abusive acts. His manipulative tactics allowed him to establish a false sense of security with the children, making it easier for him to commit the crimes.
His arrest by Kent Police occurred in May 2012, as part of an investigation into allegations involving four children. Bloomfield denied all accusations against him, and a trial was held last year. However, the jury was unable to reach a verdict regarding the offences involving two of the children, leading to a mistrial on those counts. The court then ordered a retrial specifically concerning the allegations related to the remaining victims.
During the retrial, the evidence presented led to Bloomfield’s conviction on multiple charges. These included one count of engaging in sexual activity in the presence of a child, two counts of causing and inciting a child under the age of 13 to engage in sexual activity, and one count of sexual assault. The jury, composed of six men and six women, reached a verdict with a majority of 10-2 in favor of guilt.
On February 6, Bloomfield was sentenced to seven years in prison. Additionally, he was ordered to sign the Sex Offenders Register indefinitely and was placed under a sexual offences prevention order, which remains in effect until further notice.
Detective Constable Darren Smitherman commented on the case, stating, “Bloomfield pleaded not guilty to all the charges he was facing, which unfortunately prolonged the process of delivering justice for his victims. The courts have recognized that Bloomfield is a dangerous and predatory individual, and now he will face the consequences of his actions.”
He also expressed gratitude to the victims and their families, acknowledging their bravery in coming forward and testifying against Bloomfield. “While these children will likely carry the mental scars of his crimes for a long time, I hope they can find some peace in knowing that Bloomfield is now safely behind bars,” he added.
