DAVID BERBERS FROM LONDON SENTENCED FOR RAPE IN HOVE PARK
A man identified as David Berbers, aged 21 and residing in London, has been sentenced to 11 years in prison following a brutal assault that took place in Hove.The incident occurred in St Ann’s Well Gardens on the evening of Sunday, 25 July, 2021, where Berbers attacked a teenage girl under the age of 16.
The victim had been communicating with Berbers through social media platforms prior to the assault, and they had arranged to meet in the park that evening.
According to reports, Berbers suggested they take a walk through the park, during which he committed the heinous act of rape.
After the assault, he fled the scene, leaving the young girl distressed and seeking help from nearby members of the public.
The victim was subsequently supported by medical professionals and specialized police officers who launched an urgent investigation into the incident.
Law enforcement officials quickly identified Berbers as the suspect through his Instagram account, the phone number he used to contact the victim, and a detailed description provided by her.
The police conducted extensive inquiries and managed to arrest him in London just three days later, on 28 July, 2021.
Following his arrest, Berbers was formally charged with the rape of a girl under 16 in connection with the Hove incident.
Further investigations by the Metropolitan Police revealed that he was also involved in two additional cases of rape and attempted rape, leading to separate charges.
Additionally, he faced charges related to possession of extreme pornography.
Berbers appeared at Kingston Crown Court, where a jury found him guilty on Monday, 4 December, of three counts of rape and one count of attempted rape.
He also pleaded guilty to the possession of extreme pornography.
The court subsequently sentenced him on Friday, 16 February, to a term of 11 years in prison.
As part of his sentence, he was also issued a 10-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order to restrict his future activities and protect the public from potential harm.
