GUILTY GP FACES LONG PRISON SENTENCE FOR ABUSING 17 PATIENTS
David Baillie, a former general practitioner, has admitted to sexually assaulting 17 female patients over a period exceeding 14 years. He performed unnecessary internal examinations on women who came for routine tests such as pregnancy confirmation or complaints of pain during intercourse.
Among the victims were women aged between 16 and 30, including a teenage girl.
Baillie also photographed two women and shaved others with razors, actions which caused significant distress and injury.
His conduct came to light after his colleagues reported him to the General Medical Council in October 2000, following a barrage of complaints.
During the court hearing, it was revealed that many victims came forward after the Daily Record exposed his misconduct.
Judge Lady Cosgrove warned Baillie that he faced a 'substantial prison sentence' and he was remanded on bail while awaiting sentencing, which will be decided after background reports.
Baillie has been placed on the sex offenders register and was struck off the medical register last year.
Among his victims, Jane McCairns nearly died after Baillie, more interested in groping her during examinations, failed to notice a large kidney stone that was later removed surgically.
Rose Fleck suffered a miscarriage after a painful internal examination performed by Baillie.
He was described by the prosecution as a pervert who preyed on women, sometimes appearing to have been trying to stimulate them, with some victims examined without gloves.
The court heard that Baillie also photographed patients and shaved them, causing further trauma.
His partners reported him to authorities following the complaints.
Baillie’s behavior was characterized as sexual misconduct, and the court considers a long prison term appropriate for his actions.
