Walney Child Sexual Abuser
In a case that has shocked the local community of Walney, pensioner David Attwood has admitted to possessing and creating indecent images of children, leading to a significant legal proceeding at Preston Crown Court. The incident, which involves disturbing material spanning several years, has raised serious concerns about the safety and well-being of minors in the area.

On Tuesday, at Furness Magistrates’ Court, the 76-year-old resident of Irwell Road, Walney, pleaded guilty to multiple charges related to the possession and creation of indecent images of children. Specifically, Attwood admitted to three counts of making indecent photographs and one count of possessing indecent images. The authorities discovered that he had a total of 26 images stored across various categories, with Category A being the most severe, indicating the most explicit and disturbing content.

The offences in question occurred over a period stretching from September 7, 2011, to February 25, 2014. Given the gravity of these crimes, the magistrates determined that their sentencing powers were insufficient to impose an appropriate penalty. Consequently, they decided to transfer the case to Preston Crown Court for a more comprehensive sentencing hearing.

Prosecutor Mr. Lee Dacre emphasized the seriousness of the charges, stating, “These are some of the most serious categories so, in view of that, this case should be dealt with at the crown court for sentence.” The court proceedings revealed that Attwood was found to possess 13 indecent images across categories A, B, and C. Additionally, he was involved in creating five images in Category B, five in Category A, and three in Category C, further underscoring the severity of his actions.

During his initial appearance, Mr. Gary Ormondroyd, the chairman of magistrates, informed Attwood that the case would be adjourned until June 3, when he was scheduled to appear at Preston Crown Court for sentencing. The magistrates also ordered that Attwood attend Barrow Police Station and be subject to an interim sex offender registration order, reflecting the ongoing concern about his potential risk to the community.

Attwood was granted unconditional bail until his next court date, allowing him to await sentencing without restrictions. The court proceedings highlighted the importance of a pre-sentence report prepared by the probation service, which will assist the sentencing judge in determining an appropriate penalty for the convicted individual. The case continues to draw attention to the importance of safeguarding children and the ongoing efforts to combat such heinous crimes in the Walney area and beyond.
