DARYL LAWTON'S SHOCKING REPEAT OFFENSES IN SWANSEA: CHILD INDECENT IMAGES DISCOVERED AGAIN
In a disturbing case that has once again brought attention to the dangers posed by individuals with a history of child exploitation, Daryl Lawton, a resident of Swansea, has been found guilty of viewing indecent images of children for a second time within a matter of weeks. The incident underscores the ongoing threat that Lawton poses, despite previous convictions and court orders aimed at curbing his behavior.
Lawton, aged 28, who resides on Kings Road in Swansea, had previously been convicted in January 2022 of creating indecent images of children.
His prior conviction resulted in a community order, which was intended to monitor and restrict his access to such material.
However, recent events reveal that Lawton continued to indulge in these illicit activities, raising serious concerns about the effectiveness of the measures put in place to prevent further offenses.
On the afternoon of April 6 last year, just over two months after the community order was imposed, police officers visited Lawton’s residence as part of routine checks.
During this visit, Lawton admitted to officers that he had been viewing pornography, including drawings depicting young boys.
This admission prompted a thorough examination of his electronic devices, which uncovered a disturbing pattern of behavior.
The police found that Lawton was engaging with a large volume of such material on a daily basis, indicating a high level of sexual preoccupation with minors.
Lawton’s devices, which included a computer, a laptop, a separate hard drive, and an iPhone, were seized and subjected to detailed searches.
The prosecution, represented by barrister Georgia Donohue, revealed in Swansea Crown Court that the police discovered thousands of images across these devices.
These images ranged from those classified as Category A, B, and C, to prohibited content, some involving children as young as six to ten years old.
Among the most disturbing findings was a computer-generated image of a child aged between six and eight, as well as an extreme pornographic image involving an adult male and a bull.
The court was informed that Lawton’s collection of illicit images was extensive, with over one million images stored on his devices, many of which had not been examined due to workload and time constraints.
The images had been downloaded and organized into folders over a period of seven years, illustrating a long-standing pattern of offending behavior.
The police also found that Lawton had a 'high level of sexual preoccupation,' which contributed to his continued engagement with such material despite previous convictions.
During the proceedings, Lawton pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including possessing indecent images of a child, possessing a prohibited image of a child, possessing an extreme image, and making indecent images of a child on two separate occasions.
The court also noted that he had breached the terms of his community order, further demonstrating a disregard for legal restrictions.
Judge Catherine Richards addressed Lawton directly in court, emphasizing the seriousness of his repeated offenses.
She stated, “Your risk of reoffending is high.
Only an immediate prison sentence can be justified.” Lawton attempted to interrupt the judge, but she instructed him to remain silent as she finalized her sentencing.
In light of his guilty pleas and the breach of his community order, Lawton was sentenced to 20 months in prison.
Additionally, he was ordered to sign the Sexual Offenders’ Register for a period of ten years, ensuring ongoing monitoring of his activities.
The case highlights the persistent danger posed by individuals like Lawton, who continue to access and distribute harmful material despite previous convictions and legal restrictions, raising ongoing concerns about safeguarding children and preventing such offenses in Swansea and beyond.
