DARREN WILD'S VIOLENT ASSAULT IN DURHAM: SHOCKING ATTACK ON PARTNER WITH BABY PRESENT

Darren Wild, a 28-year-old resident of Sherburn Road in Durham, was involved in a brutal and unprovoked assault on his then-partner, an incident that has shocked the local community and drawn the attention of the courts. The events unfolded after Wild returned home heavily intoxicated, having consumed whiskey and cans of lager, which appeared to impair his judgment and self-control.

According to court proceedings, Wild attempted to conceal his alcohol from the woman, who was visibly displeased with his drunken state. The situation quickly escalated as Wild became verbally aggressive, hurling abusive language at her. The situation took a violent turn when, while she was holding a baby, Wild began to punch her repeatedly in the head. The assault was severe enough to cause her to fall onto the floor in a fetal position, a vulnerable stance that did little to deter Wild from continuing his attack.

He proceeded to kick and stamp on her head and arm, inflicting injuries that resulted in a 2cm cut to her head. The assault was not only physically damaging but also deeply traumatic. Following the attack, Wild declared his intention to leave the scene, but not before he destroyed property by smashing a television on the floor. He also issued threats to return and harm her family, heightening the sense of danger and fear surrounding the incident.

The woman required medical treatment at a hospital for her injuries, which included the head wound. During police interviews, Wild claimed that his partner had attacked him first, a statement that the court found to be inconsistent with the evidence. It was noted that Wild had a criminal history, with previous convictions for five offences, including dangerous driving. However, he did not have prior convictions for assault or criminal damage.

Judge James Adkin addressed the court, emphasizing the severity of Wild’s actions, especially given that he assaulted his partner while she was holding a baby. The judge described the attack as crossing the line of acceptable behavior and sentenced Wild to 14 months in prison. The defense, represented by Adam Scott, acknowledged Wild’s 'unconscionable violence' and expressed that his client was genuinely remorseful, deeply ashamed, and that his actions were out of character, largely influenced by his intoxication at the time.
