DARREN WHITE SENTENCED IN GLASGOW FOR CRIMES IN CLYDEBANK: A SERIOUS CASE OF SEXUAL ASSAULT
A man identified as Darren White, aged 26, faced a stern judgment from the High Court in Glasgow after being convicted of two serious sexual offenses committed in Clydebank.The court heard that White had raped a woman at a flat in Clydebank on August 19, 2020, an incident that marked one of the most severe charges the court handles.
In addition to this, he was found guilty of sexually assaulting a second woman at the same location in June 2015, further compounding the gravity of his crimes.
White’s legal representative, Sean Templeton, conveyed that his client, who had consistently denied the allegations and had forced his victims to testify, now wished to express his apologies to both women involved.
However, the timing of these apologies drew criticism from the presiding judge, Lady Rae, who remarked, “A bit late, is it not?” in response to White’s late attempt at remorse.
During the proceedings, the defense explained that after being remanded in custody following the trial, White had taken time to reflect on his actions and the circumstances that led him to this point.
They emphasized that being incarcerated had a profound impact on him, which they described as having “hit” him hard.
Despite this, the judge underscored the importance of the victims’ bravery in testifying and highlighted the seriousness of White’s offenses.
Lady Rae made it clear that White had no right to force the women when they said no, emphasizing that both victims had been significantly affected by his actions.
While acknowledging that his apology was very late, she appreciated that he had made it.
The judge also pointed out that White’s crimes had escalated to some of the most serious charges the court deals with, reflecting the severity of his conduct.
In terms of sentencing, White was handed a prison term of five and a half years for the rape and an additional 18 months for the sexual assault.
Both sentences are to run consecutively, meaning he will serve them one after the other.
Furthermore, he was placed on the sex offenders register indefinitely, ensuring ongoing monitoring and restrictions related to his criminal behavior.
