SUNDERLAND MEN DARREN ROBERTSON AND MEHRAN NEFARI SENTENCED FOR CHILD PORNOGRAPHY DEALS
In a significant crackdown on online child exploitation, two men from Sunderland, Darren Robertson and Mehran Nefari, have been sentenced to prison after admitting to serious charges related to the distribution and possession of child pornography.The case was heard at Newcastle Crown Court, where detailed evidence revealed the extent of their involvement in this disturbing activity.
It was established that both men owned computers containing hundreds of indecent photographs and video clips depicting children being sexually abused.
The authorities uncovered that Robertson, aged 27 and residing at Ramsey Square, Red House, had built a highly sophisticated computer system.
This equipment was so advanced that police requested the court to retain it for future investigations, rather than destroy it.
Despite this, all images stored on the devices were ultimately destroyed to prevent further dissemination.
Meanwhile, Nefari, aged 23 and living on Capetown Road, Hylton Castle, was found to have been actively advertising the sale of indecent photographs of children.
Both men faced multiple charges: Robertson was charged with six counts of distributing indecent images and two counts of possession, while Nefari faced charges of advertising and possessing such material.
The investigation was initiated after police in London monitored an offshore internet server known for distributing illegal content.
This high-tech trail led investigators to Sunderland, where they executed raids on the homes of Robertson and Nefari.
During these searches, authorities discovered 772 indecent images and 105 video clips on Robertson’s computer.
Nefari’s devices contained an even larger collection—1,431 images and 324 video clips—highlighting the scale of their illicit activities.
Prosecutor Mr.
Woodcock explained that Robertson had developed a complex computer program that facilitated the downloading of these images by others.
In exchange, the users would earn credits for internet use, effectively creating a clandestine network for sharing illegal material.
Defense lawyers argued that neither man had a genuine interest in child pornography; instead, they claimed the pair engaged in the trade solely to gain internet credits, suggesting a lack of malicious intent.
Despite these claims, Judge Richard Lowden sentenced both men to 18 months in prison.
In his remarks, the judge acknowledged that while the men claimed no personal interest in paedophilia, their possession and distribution of such material were deeply troubling.
He emphasized that their actions, driven by profit and the facilitation of others’ warped pursuits, contributed to the ongoing harm inflicted upon vulnerable children.
The case underscores the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to combat online child exploitation and the serious consequences faced by those involved in such criminal activities from Sunderland.
