FALKIRK SEX OFFENDER DARREN REID SHAMES GIRLS WITH EXPOSED BUTTOCKS IN TOWN CENTRE
In August 2022, a disturbing incident unfolded in Falkirk involving Darren Reid, a known sex offender, that left young girls traumatized and authorities investigating his actions.The events took place in the heart of Falkirk town centre, where Reid's reckless behavior escalated from a seemingly minor altercation to a shocking display of indecency.
According to reports, Reid, aged 45 at the time, was about to step off the pavement into the street when a group of girls, some as young as 13, noticed him.
The girls, who were in the vicinity, quickly shouted warnings to Reid, alerting him to the approaching vehicle.
Their quick thinking likely prevented a potential accident, but the situation took a disturbing turn shortly after.
Reid appeared to be annoyed by the girls' intervention.
Instead of showing gratitude or remaining calm, he responded with aggressive shouting and swearing directed at the young bystanders.
In a shocking display of disrespect and indecency, Reid then proceeded to pull down his trousers, exposing his buttocks to the girls.
Witnesses described the incident as happening for several moments, leaving the young girls visibly upset and alarmed.
Frightened and distressed, the girls quickly retreated to the safety of a nearby shop, seeking refuge from the unsettling scene.
However, when they exited the store, Reid was still present in the vicinity.
One of the girls managed to discreetly capture a photograph of Reid with her mobile phone, an act that would later prove crucial in identifying him.
CCTV footage from the area also recorded the incident, providing further evidence of Reid’s inappropriate behavior.
Several days after the incident, police were made aware of the event.
The school-based police officer obtained the photograph taken by one of the girls, which ultimately led to Reid’s arrest.
It was revealed that Reid had appeared at Falkirk Police Station on an unrelated matter, and during this visit, officers recognized him from the images and footage of the indecent exposure.
Reid faced court proceedings at Falkirk Sheriff Court last Thursday, where he pleaded guilty to two charges.
The first was threatening behavior in Garrison Place, Falkirk, on April 23, and the second was a sexual assault involving touching a woman’s private parts over her clothing on Stewart Road, Falkirk, on July 24 of the previous year.
The court clarified that there was no sexual element involved in the recent incident, which was captured on CCTV, but emphasized that the event had left the young girls, aged 13 and 14, deeply shaken and distressed.
Rachel Hill, the procurator fiscal depute, provided details of the incident, stating, “The complainers did not know the accused.
It was 6.30 pm and the complainers saw the accused crossing in front of them.
He appeared to be under the influence of alcohol.
He stepped onto the road when a car was approaching, and one of the complainers shouted at him to be careful.
He then shouted towards them, swearing and calling one of them a fat cow.
He then pulled his trousers down and exposed his buttocks to the girls – he did this for several moments.
The complainers were upset and alarmed and quickly walked past the accused and approached another adult for assistance into Asda.
They remained inside for a few minutes, and upon exiting, they saw Reid again.
One girl managed to take a picture of him with her phone.
Several days later, police were informed, and the image was handed over to authorities.” It was also revealed that Reid voluntarily attended Falkirk Police Station on an unrelated matter, which led to his arrest for the recent indecent exposure.
During the court hearing, Sheriff Derek Livingston commented on Reid’s behavior, noting that the young girls had tried to help him, yet he appeared to have taken offense at their intervention.
Addressing Reid directly, the sheriff stated, “However drunk you were, it’s no excuse whatsoever in relation to these matters.” Reid, residing at 8 Birnam Place, Falkirk, was sentenced to a total of 282 days in prison for the two offenses.
Additionally, he was placed on the sex offenders register for a period of five years, marking a significant legal consequence for his actions in Falkirk.
