A 19-year-old man named Darren Mitchell has been sentenced to a term of 30 months in prison following his involvement in a disturbing case of child abuse in Kirriemuir, Angus.

His twin brother, Nathan Mitchell, received a lesser sentence of two years for their joint participation in the heinous acts.

The court proceedings revealed that Darren played the dominant role in the abuse, which involved both brothers taking turns to engage in sexual acts with a 13-year-old girl.

The girl, described as extremely vulnerable, had fled her home after a heated argument with her family, making her an easy target for the offenders.

According to the court, the twins, both of whom had prior convictions related to child sex offences, encountered the girl at a bus stop in Kirriemuir.

They then lured her to a nearby house where the abuse took place in October of the previous year.

The girl’s mother reported her missing, prompting police to investigate the case.

Officers found her hiding in a cupboard within the house, indicating the severity of her distress and the dangerous environment she had been subjected to.
