Darren Minett from Haddenham Faces Court Over Sex Offender Register Violations

DARREN MINETT FROM HADDENHAM FACES COURT OVER SEX OFFENDER REGISTER VIOLATIONS

In a recent court hearing held in Cambridge, Darren Minett, a 25-year-old resident of Cherry Orchard in Haddenham near Ely, was brought before magistrates to address his failure to adhere to the legal requirements of the sex offenders register.

This violation comes four years after Minett was convicted of engaging in sexual activity with a 13-year-old girl in 2008, when he was 20 years old.

Minett had been sentenced to a one-year prison term, which was suspended for two years, and was ordered to sign the sex offenders register for a period of ten years.

However, last week, he admitted to not complying with the notification obligations of the register, specifically on October 9.

His failure to sign the register was a breach of the court’s order and the law governing sex offender registration.

During the hearing, Lowri Marks, representing Minett, explained that her client “loathes and detests” having to sign the register.

She emphasized that Minett feels “ashamed and embarrassed” about his situation, which has led him to adopt a stance of avoidance.

Marks described Minett as “burying his head in the sand,” hoping that the issue would somehow resolve itself or be overlooked.

The court responded by imposing a strict four-month curfew on Minett, requiring him to remain at his residence between 8pm and 6am daily.

Additionally, Minett was ordered to pay £85 in court costs.

The judge’s decision reflects the seriousness with which the court views violations of sex offender registration laws, especially in cases involving individuals with prior convictions for sexual offenses against minors.
