2009: DUDLEY MAN JAILED FOR ATTACKING GIRLFRIEND
A 38-year-old man from Dudley has received a one-year prison sentence after assaulting his girlfriend, resulting in a fractured eye socket.Judge Michael Dudley remarked to Darren Lawson that the punch was likely very forceful to cause such injury.
During proceedings at Wolverhampton Crown Court, it was revealed that Lawson, who has a history of violent offenses, had been in a relationship with Julia Walters for several months.
The incident occurred when he returned home to Peel Street following a night of drinking.
Howard Seale explained that a heated dispute ensued between the couple, culminating in Lawson punching Walters, which caused her to fall to the ground.
Following his arrest, Lawson, who was found to be carrying a lock-knife, made a provocative comment to police, saying, "She is lucky she never got it in the throat." Lawson, currently residing in Shrewsbury, pleaded guilty to wounding and possessing a weapon, and the judge emphasized that a custodial sentence was unavoidable.
Gwyn Price-Rowlands, representing Lawson, noted that he acknowledges his aggressive behavior when intoxicated but is now committed to turning his life around.
