MAN JAILED FOR LIFE FOR HORRIFIC RAPE AND MURDER OF PENSIONER IN WALES
A man named Darren Jackson, aged 26, was convicted and given a life sentence after being found guilty of the murder and sexual assault of Irene Lawless, a 67-year-old pensioner, in her secluded bungalow located in Llanllwni, Carmarthenshire.
Jackson was responsible for repeatedly raping the vulnerable widow before strangling her to death in January of this year.
Evidence showed that Jackson had previously researched explicit online content, such as titles like "Fat Granny's Shower Interrupted," suggesting prior planning and malicious intent.
In court, High Court judge Mr Justice Royce condemned the acts as "evil depravity," emphasizing the brutality of the crime.
After the assault, Jackson stole Lawless's handbag and her Audi A3, fleeing to Deal in Kent.
CCTV footage tracked his movements, leading to his arrest within five hours of the discovery of Lawless’s deceased, naked body.
The trial included forensic evidence, with DNA and fingerprint matches establishing his link to the scene.
Jackson received a life sentence with a minimum of 28 years before parole, with the judge describing the attack as "heartless violence" carried out "for your own perverted pleasure and gratification." The judge pointed out that Jackson’s disturbed mental state could prevent him from ever being released, concluding that, "Many will say that that will be no more than you deserve."
