DARREN HUBY, THE GLASGOW PERVERT IN GREY MASK, SENT MESSAGES TO 13-YEAR-OLD GIRL
In August 2022, a disturbing case emerged involving Darren Huby, a 43-year-old man from Glasgow, who was convicted of engaging in inappropriate online communications with a girl he believed to be only 13 years old.The incident was uncovered through the efforts of a dedicated paedophile hunting group, which had set up a decoy account on the social media platform Chathour, posing as a teenage girl to catch predators.
Between November and December 2021, Huby initiated contact with what he thought was a young girl, but in reality, he was communicating with an adult operating the decoy account.
During this period, he sent numerous sexually explicit messages and even a selfie to the decoy, all from his residence in Glasgow’s Lambhill neighborhood.
His messages included warnings for the decoy not to disclose their conversations to her parents or to the police, indicating an awareness of the illicit nature of his actions.
Huby pleaded guilty at Glasgow Sheriff Court to charges of attempting to communicate indecently with a child.
The court proceedings revealed that the decoy account was created by a member of a paedophile hunting group, who posed as a teenage girl to lure potential offenders.
The first message sent by Huby was particularly alarming, as he wrote, “Mmm wow such a beautiful and sexy young girl.” The decoy responded with her name and age, prompting Huby to continue the conversation, which soon became increasingly explicit and sexual in tone.
He repeatedly urged the decoy not to tell anyone about their exchanges, including her parents or the police.
The communication continued via WhatsApp, where the prosecutor, Carrie Stevens, explained that Huby requested multiple times that the decoy delete the conversation and any photographs she might send.
At one point, he asked, “are you sure it’s okay and you’re not gonna go to your parents or police,” demonstrating his awareness of the potential consequences of his actions.
During the chat, Huby also sent a photograph of himself wearing a grey mask that partially concealed his face, further indicating his attempt to hide his identity.
Once the police obtained the chat logs, they arrested Huby.
It was revealed that at the time of the incident, he was on licence following an earlier prison sentence.
The court was informed of the seriousness of such offences, and Sheriff Iain Fleming sentenced Huby to 18 months in prison, emphasizing the importance of public safety and the need to deter similar conduct.
Additionally, Huby was placed on the sex offenders register, ensuring ongoing monitoring of his activities.
