DARRAN ADIE FROM DURRANHILL JAILED FOR CHILD RAPE IMAGE POSSESSION IN CARLISLE
In a disturbing case that has shocked the local community, Darren Adie, a resident of Durranhill in Carlisle, was sentenced to six months in prison after being found guilty of possessing and making indecent images of children, including some depicting the rape of a three-year-old. The sentencing took place at Carlisle’s Crown Court, where Judge Paul Batty QC presided over the case.Just three days prior to the sentencing, the court was presented with the harrowing details of the case. Judge Batty, upon reviewing the evidence, chose to delay the formal sentencing, citing the disturbing nature of the images he was required to view. The images, which he described as “shocking and revolting,” left a lasting impression, prompting the judge to postpone the decision to ensure a fair and considered judgment.
Adie, aged 26, who resides on Cumrew Close in Durranhill, was charged with a total of 11 offences related to internet pornography involving children. These charges included five counts of creating indecent photographs of children and six counts of possessing such images. The police investigation was initiated after a raid on the house he shared with his mother and a younger brother who has disabilities.
During the police interview, Adie admitted to having downloaded numerous sexually explicit images of children, some as young as 18 months old. Among the material found on his computer was a video showing a three-year-old boy being raped. Prosecutor Jacob Dyer detailed that the police found dozens of such images and videos on Adie’s computer, highlighting the severity of the case.
In his police statement, Adie claimed that his initial motivation for searching for such material was curiosity, inspired by reading about other individuals being prosecuted for similar offenses. However, he later admitted that he derived sexual excitement from viewing the images, indicating a troubling escalation in his behavior.
As part of his sentence, Adie will also be required to register as a sex offender for the next ten years, a measure intended to monitor and prevent further offenses. The case has left the community in Durranhill and Carlisle deeply disturbed, raising ongoing concerns about internet safety and the protection of vulnerable children from exploitation.
