DARNELL MCCOLLINS JAILED FOR SEXUAL ASSAULT OUTSIDE LONDON COURT WHILE ON TRIAL FOR DRUG DEALING
In a disturbing incident that unfolded outside a court in Stafford, a man identified as Darnell McCollins, aged 24 and residing in Eaton, London, was involved in a serious criminal act while he was already facing charges related to drug dealing. The incident took place on the 3rd of June last year, when McCollins was scheduled to appear at Stafford Crown Court to answer to his ongoing case.
As he waited outside the courthouse, McCollins approached two teenage girls, engaging them in conversation by asking for their personal details.
What began as seemingly innocent questions quickly took a sinister turn as he made repeated advances towards the girls, ultimately molesting both of them.
The victims, understandably distressed and frightened, managed to walk away from the situation and promptly reported the assault to nearby authorities.
Following the report, law enforcement officers launched a thorough investigation into the incident.
The police quickly identified McCollins as the suspect and arrested him the very next day.
During police custody, McCollins was questioned about the allegations but denied any involvement in the sexual assaults.
Despite his denials, the evidence collected by the police, including witness statements and other investigative findings, supported the victims' accounts.
Specialized officers from the police child protection team (CPT) dedicated significant effort to supporting the victims throughout the investigation.
Their work was crucial in ensuring that all necessary evidence was gathered to proceed with formal charges against McCollins.
McCollins was subsequently brought before the court, where he pleaded guilty to the charge of sexual assault on a female during an earlier hearing.
His guilty plea led to a sentencing at Cannock Magistrates’ Court on March 11.
The court sentenced him to 23 weeks of imprisonment, a sentence that will run consecutively with another sentence he is currently serving for unrelated charges.
In addition to his prison sentence, McCollins was ordered to register as a sex offender for a period of seven years.
The court also issued a restraining order to prevent him from contacting the victims and imposed a financial penalty of £604 to cover court costs.
This case highlights the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to protect vulnerable individuals and ensure that justice is served, even in cases that occur in the immediate vicinity of the court where the accused is appearing.
