2011: DUDLEY MAN JAILED FOR STABBING ESTRANGED WIFE
A 43 YEAR-old Dudley man who stabbed his estranged wife in the stomach with a kitchen knife after a heated argument has been jailed for 56 months.Darius Meredith, of Beech Green, had a previous conviction for assaulting his wife Paula causing her actual bodily harm, said Christopher O'Gorman prosecuting.
And he told Wolverhampton Crown Court that Meredith had also been cautioned by police on two other occasions for offences of common assault against his partner.
He said that shortly after the couple married, Meredith started to act aggressively and was handed the actual bodily harm charge after punching her in the face.
The couple separated and after sending his former partner a string of abusive text messages, Meredith went to her home.
Mr O'Gorman said he had not taken the weapon to the property but, as they argued in the kitchen, he had picked up the knife in temper and stabbed her in the stomach.
Meredith admitted wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and was further made the subject of a 10 year restraining order forbidding him from having any contact with his former partner.
Judge Martin Walsh told Meredith his history of assaults towards his wife was "worrying" and the wound he caused had left her needing hospital treatment.
Osama Daneshyar defending told the court that Meredith was now looking to rebuild his life on his release from his custodial sentence.
