DAREN JONES SENTENCED TO 12 YEARS IN HAMPSHIRE FOR MULTIPLE CHILD SEX OFFENCES
A man from Tadley, Hampshire, has received a significant prison sentence after pleading guilty to a series of serious sexual offences committed against children.Daren Jones, aged 48 and residing on Silchester Road in Little London, appeared before Winchester Crown Court last month, where he admitted to a total of 29 counts related to sexual misconduct involving minors.
The allegations against Jones include predatory sexual assaults on two young boys, both under the age of 13.
These criminal acts are said to have taken place in the localities of Tadley and Reading, Hampshire, over a period spanning from 2015 to 2017.
The details of these offences reflect a troubling pattern of abuse that has understandably caused significant distress to the victims and their families.
The misconduct only came to public notice after the incidents were reported to the authorities in December 2017.
An extensive investigation was subsequently launched by Hampshire Constabulary, which worked diligently to track down Jones.
Police were able to locate him at a hotel in Brighton, Sussex, on Wednesday, December 27, where he was promptly arrested.
The arrest was a culmination of efforts to bring a fugitive to justice, as Jones had been on the run.
During the court proceedings, it was revealed that Jones had previously left the United States in 2008 while he was on bail.
At that time, he faced serious charges related to sexual offences against children.
Over the years, he adopted the alias 'Simon Jones' to live discreetly, effectively avoiding law enforcement for a period of time until his capture.
Following the sentencing today at Winchester Crown Court, the investigation officer, detective constable Sarah Moyce-Phillips, of Hampshire Constabulary’s Child Abuse Investigation Team, expressed her thoughts on the case.
She conveyed hope that the lengthy sentence would provide some measure of closure for the victims and their loved ones, acknowledging the traumatic and difficult nature of the experiences.
She reaffirmed the law enforcement’s dedication, stating, “Once the offences came to light, officers worked tirelessly to make sure Jones was arrested and could be brought to court to face justice for what he did.” Det.

Judge Jane Miller handed down a sentence of 12 years in prison to Daren Jones.
This was accompanied by an extended licence period of five years, during which he will be closely monitored.
Additionally, Jones was placed under a sexual harm prevention order that will remain in effect until further notice, providing additional safeguards to prevent him from reoffending.
