DANUT BULBOANA SENTENCED TO 12 YEARS IN LONDON FOR BRUTAL SEX ATTACK
A homeless sex offender who lured a woman into woodland and subjected her to two rapes has been sentenced to 12 years in prison.Danut Bulboana, 21, targeted the woman near Catford Bridge Railway Station in southeast London after she became lost on her way home following a night out.
The victim, in her late twenties, was enticed into nearby woods by Bulboana, a Romanian national living rough in the area.
During the assault in August last year, Bulboana forced an object into her mouth to silence her cries during the prolonged sexual attack.
The woman managed to escape and called 999; a response team arrived within minutes.
She led officers to the scene of the crime and provided a detailed description of her attacker.
Following forensic examinations that linked him to the offence, Bulboana was arrested.
He was charged on 25 October 2019 and denied the rape.
However, after a trial, he was convicted of two counts of rape and one of attempting to choke, and was sentenced at Woolwich Crown Court.
Bulboana, who was without a fixed address, was convicted and sentenced to 12 years.
Detective Constable Dean Young, who led the investigation, commented: "This was a brutal and extremely sinister attack in which Bulboana preyed on a vulnerable woman.
I commend her bravery in calling police after such a horrific ordeal.
Her quick actions led to Bulboana's swift arrest and conviction.
This case exemplifies our commitment to removing sexual predators from London’s streets and ensuring justice is served.
Rape and sexual offences can cause lasting trauma, and I hope his conviction supports the victim’s recovery.
If you are a victim of a sexual crime, please come forward — you will receive support from trained officers dedicated to helping you through your recovery process." The CPS spokesperson, Nijole O'Brien, added: "This was a terrifying attack by a stranger.
The victim showed remarkable bravery in guiding police to Bulboana, who had changed his clothes to avoid detection.
Despite his claims that he only comforted and assisted the victim, evidence including DNA, CCTV footage, and witness testimony proved otherwise.
Bulboana will now face the consequences of his actions, and I hope this conviction provides some closure for the victim."
