DANNY RICHARDSON OF TAMWORTH SENTENCED FOR CHILD PORNOGRAPHY OFFENSES IN STAFFORD
In a recent development in the ongoing fight against child exploitation, Danny Richardson, a 25-year-old resident of Redlake in Tamworth, has seen his prison sentence significantly reduced following a series of disturbing discoveries related to his possession and distribution of indecent images of minors.The case was brought before Stafford Crown Court, where Richardson was initially sentenced on January 5 to a term of 30 months and six weeks.
The severity of his crimes was underscored by the presence of two videos, classified in the most depraved category, depicting young girls approximately 10 years old.
These videos were found on his mobile device, as detailed by Mr.
Justice Edis during the proceedings in London's Appeal Court.
Further investigations revealed that a computer seized from Richardson in September 2016 contained a total of 30 images in the most serious category of indecency, along with an additional 90 photographs of similar nature.
Richardson admitted to three counts of creating indecent images of children and one count of possessing such material.
His guilty plea also extended to possession of an extreme pornographic image, failure to comply with notification requirements, and two violations of a sexual harm prevention order (SHPO).
The SHPO had been initially imposed in September 2015, following Richardson's previous conviction for three counts of possessing indecent images of children.
Despite this, Richardson breached the order twice in May and October of the previous year by refusing to provide his mobile phone for police inspection when requested.
Additionally, he failed to notify authorities of his change of address, further violating the conditions of the order.
Compounding his legal issues, Richardson also breached a suspended sentence imposed in September 2015, which was originally for vehicle theft and driving under the influence of alcohol.
This resulted in an additional six-week extension to his sentence.
During the sentencing hearing, Richardson's legal representative, Simon Hunka, argued that the original sentence was excessively harsh and should be reduced.
The panel, comprising Mr.
Justice Edis, Lord Justice Hickinbottom, and Judge Martin Picton, agreed with this assessment.
They concluded that the overall length of Richardson's sentence was "manifestly excessive" and subsequently reduced his prison term to 22 months, reflecting a more proportionate response to his crimes and breaches.
