DANNY GREGORY CAUGHT IN COVENTRY STING TRYING TO MEET YOUNG GIRLS FOR SEXUAL ABUSE
In September 2018, a disturbing case unfolded involving a 29-year-old man from Coventry named Danny Gregory, who was apprehended while attempting to meet what he believed were the father and two young daughters for the purpose of engaging in sexual activities.Gregory had traveled to Coventry railway station with the explicit intention of carrying out these heinous acts, but his plans were thwarted when he was caught in a police sting operation.
Gregory, a resident of Lion Fields Avenue in Allesley Village, Coventry, had been in contact with an individual he believed was the father of two young girls, aged eight and 11.
However, this individual was actually an undercover police officer conducting an operation aimed at combating online child sexual exploitation.
The police had set up the sting as part of a broader initiative to identify and apprehend individuals seeking to commit such crimes.
The investigation was initiated after Gregory engaged in an online chat on a pornographic website, specifically within a chat room dedicated to incest themes.
On May 29, Gregory entered this chat room and initiated contact with the officer, discussing his preferences and interests.
During the conversation, Gregory openly expressed that he was attracted to young children, mentioning his interests in incest and 'schoolies.' The officer responded by revealing that he had two daughters, aged eight and 11, and described his desire to 'play with them' and watch them being played with.
The dialogue between Gregory and the undercover officer took a disturbing turn as they discussed the possibility of Gregory sexually abusing the children in front of their father.
Gregory expressed a desire to lick their feet while they engaged in French kissing and even mentioned having intercourse with the 11-year-old.
Over subsequent conversations, they made plans for a meeting, with Gregory indicating his willingness to carry out these acts in real life.
On July 4, Gregory was recorded speaking on the phone with someone he believed was the 11-year-old girl.
During this call, he discussed having sexual intercourse with her.
An arrangement was made for Gregory to meet the supposed father and children at Coventry railway station the following day, with the intent of executing the plans discussed.
Prosecutor Alex Warren explained that Gregory’s actions were initially motivated by fantasy, but over time, his intentions grew more serious, leading him to plan actual physical contact.
Gregory pleaded guilty to attempting to meet a child for sexual activity, acknowledging that his initial fantasies had developed into a desire to act on them.
During sentencing, Judge Peter Cooke addressed Gregory directly, stating, “You were arrested at Coventry railway station where you had attended in the hope of meeting a father and his 11- and eight-year-old daughters so that, as arranged, you could engage in sexual abuse of them.
In fact, you’d been caught in a police sting operation.” The judge emphasized that, according to sentencing guidelines, attempts to commit such offenses, especially when no actual child is involved, are considered less serious.
He noted that this context should influence the sentencing decision rather than the revulsion at Gregory’s intentions.
Ultimately, Judge Cooke decided that Gregory was a suitable candidate for a suspended sentence, believing that this approach would serve both to address his offending behavior and to protect the public from potential harm.
