YORK CLEANER JAILED FOR SECRETLY RECORDING WOMEN AND CHILDREN IN THEIR HOMES
Daniel Winteringham, aged 35 and residing in Sutherland Street, York, has been sentenced to 38 months in prison after admitting to multiple serious crimes including voyeurism, recording and sharing indecent images of children and women, possessing extreme pornography, and perverting the course of justice.
His misconduct was uncovered after a young girl notified her parents that he had taken photographs of her while she was unclothed.
This led to an investigation where authorities seized multiple devices and discovered numerous videos and still images showing women and girls in various stages of undress, which Winteringham had secretly recorded inside their homes by installing hidden cameras.
Additionally, officers found thousands of recordings of women and girls dressed or otherwise in public settings.
Some images and videos were downloaded from the internet, with others made by Winteringham.
His initial charges emerged in October 2022, and while on bail, he attempted to coerce a victim into lying to police by offering money and harassing her when she refused.
As a result, he faced further charges related to this misconduct, including perverting the course of justice, and has been detained since February 2023.
The court sentenced him to 38 months, imposed restraining orders on each victim, mandated a Sexual Harm Prevention Order, and ordered him to be on the Sex Offenders Register for life, in recognition of the severe breach of trust, privacy, and safety caused by his actions.
Detective Constable Alastair Foy, leading the investigation, described Winteringham's conduct as 'outrageous, disturbing, and unforgivable,' emphasizing the profound and ongoing impact on his victims and their families.
