DANIEL WATERWORTH SENTENCED FOR SEXUAL ASSAULT AND VIOLENT THREATS IN MANCHESTER

A man identified as Daniel Waterworth has received a lengthy prison sentence following his conviction for a series of serious offenses involving both sexual assault and violent threats in Manchester.

The court heard that Waterworth, aged 31, committed a sexual assault against a young girl of primary school age in December of the previous year.

This heinous act occurred while he was already on bail, awaiting trial for multiple other charges related to his partner.

The most severe of Waterworth's criminal behavior took place on April 1, 2022, when he brandished a Stanley knife, threatening to kill his partner if she screamed for help.

According to the prosecution, Isabelle Haddad, Waterworth forcibly held the knife against her neck, her life perilously close to being ended by his threats.

During this assault, Waterworth inflicted a deep slice across her hand as she struggled to free herself.

The court also learned that he forcibly subdued her by pinning her underneath a table and covering her mouth with his hand, then gagging her with a dressing gown cord that reportedly had some liquid on it, which caused her to vomit.

The attack only ceased when a child unexpectedly entered the room, bringing the assault to an end.

Less than two weeks prior to this incident, on March 19, Waterworth had confronted his partner once again.

That evening, after her sending a photograph of chocolates she was eating at her workplace, Waterworth accused her of infidelity.

When they later returned to their shared residence, he retrieved a knife from beneath a pillow and threatened her with death if she screamed.

He then took measures to lock the front door, effectively trapping her inside.

Despite this, the woman managed to escape through the front garden, where Waterworth pursued her and delivered multiple punches — between eight and ten hits — to her head.

She eventually sought refuge at a neighbor’s house to escape further violence.

During his arrest, police officers discovered a small bag of cocaine on Waterworth.

The court records show that Waterworth pleaded guilty to several charges, including two counts of threatening a person with a knife, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, battery, possession of cocaine, and sexually assaulting a child under the age of 13.

Defending Waterworth, barrister Nick Ross stated that his client was 'disgusted at his own conduct' and claimed he had no recollection of the assault.

The defense also highlighted that Waterworth suffers from alcohol and substance abuse issues, and a psychiatric assessment confirmed that he suffers from psychosis.

In delivering the sentence, Recorder Michael Maher declared that Waterworth was a dangerous offender and sentenced him to five years in prison.

Additionally, he imposed an extended two-year license period during which Waterworth will be monitored.

Addressing Waterworth directly, the judge remarked, 'Your abuse of alcohol and drugs aggravates your poor mental health and aggressive behavior.' The court also issued a restraining order preventing him from contacting his ex-partner and mandated his registration on the sex offenders' register for life, underscoring the seriousness of his crimes committed in Manchester.
