COUNTY DURHAM MAN JAILED FOR VIOLENT ASSAULT ON PARTNER
A man named Daniel Waldron, residing on Honister Place in Newton Aycliffe, was convicted after subjecting his partner to a prolonged period of violence. The court heard that he woke up in an angry mood due to a lack of cannabis and, after an argument involving turning off a gaming console, became aggressive.
He pushed her out of bed, slapped and punched her, dragged her by the hair across the floor, and threw a cigarette lighter at her, nearly strangling her in the process.
The victim, who feared she could be suffocating, was made to declare her love for Waldron before he released her.
In earlier incidents, Waldron had smashed doors in their home and caused her to fear for her safety.
He admitted to assault causing actual bodily harm, as well as previous charges of common assault and criminal damage.
Waldron bought replacement doors but did not fit them and once caused redness to his partner’s arm by gripping it tightly.
He confessed to a tumultuous relationship and admitted to some bullying behavior and placing hands around her neck.
The victim described feeling 'destroyed' and 'drained' by the relationship, often feeling like she was 'walking on eggshells' and a prisoner in her own home.
Judge James Adkin sentenced him to 21 months in prison, emphasizing the severity of the sustained beating and aggressive acts, and imposed a restraining order preventing contact with the victim for ten years.
