DANIEL TRAYLING FROM BROMLEY AND SUTTON ESCAPES JAIL DESPITE CHILD ABUSE IMAGE SCANDAL
In a case that has shocked the local communities of Bromley and Sutton, Daniel Trayling, a 24-year-old man with ties to both areas, was sentenced after being found in possession of a significant number of illegal child abuse images. The incident unfolded in February of the previous year, when police officers executed a search warrant at Trayling’s residence, which was located in Wallington, Sutton. During the raid, authorities uncovered a disturbing collection of digital material on his home computer and mobile phone, totaling 124 illicit images, including one classified at level four, which is recognized as the second most severe category of child pornography.Trayling, who had previously worked within Bromley schools as part of his role, was arrested and charged in September of the same year. Despite his initial protests of innocence, he ultimately pleaded guilty to possession of indecent images of children just moments before his trial was scheduled to commence at Croydon Crown Court on June 3. His background was notable, as he hails from a family of police officers and had aspirations of joining the force himself.
During the sentencing hearing on Monday, July 1, Judge Warwick McKinnon, the Recorder of Croydon, handed down a sentence that included a 12-month community order. This order requires Trayling to be under the supervision of a probation officer for a year. Additionally, he was ordered to pay £1,354 in prosecution costs, a penalty imposed because he delayed admitting his guilt until the last possible moment, effectively holding out “until the court door” to acknowledge his crimes.
Judge McKinnon acknowledged Trayling’s previous good character but emphasized the gravity of his actions, stating, “You are a man of previous good character, and these convictions have destroyed your prospective career of choice.” The judge also noted that Trayling, who resides in Wallington, Sutton, had been suspended from his job following the charges but chose to resign before any disciplinary proceedings could be finalized. The court also imposed restrictions on his internet access and mandated a specific activity requirement order aimed at correcting his errant behavior. The judge warned that any breach of this order would result in an immediate custodial sentence.
Throughout the hearing, only limited details of the case were disclosed. Outside the court, Trayling’s solicitor, Henry Oghoetuoma, expressed a desire for his client to move past this chapter, stating, “Daniel Trayling would like to put this chapter behind him, learn from the past and move forward constructively.” The case has left a lasting impact on the communities of Bromley and Sutton, highlighting the serious consequences of such criminal conduct.
