DANIEL THOMAS AND HIS SHOCKING SEXUAL OFFENSES IN WILTSHIRE
A man identified as Daniel Thomas has been sentenced to prison after violating a sexual harm prevention order by engaging in inappropriate and sexual communications with a person he believed to be a 13-year-old girl. The incident took place in Wiltshire, where Thomas, aged 33 and residing in Westbury, was caught in a police operation that involved a detailed investigation conducted by Wiltshire Police, with support from the South West Regional Organised Crime Unit (SWROCU).
The investigation revealed that between May 4 and June 27 of this year, Thomas, who is a registered sex offender, was actively communicating via a social media platform with an individual he thought was a teenage girl.
Unbeknownst to him, the person he was speaking with was actually a specially trained officer working undercover.
During their exchanges, Thomas escalated the conversation to include sexual content, which raised serious concerns about his intentions and behavior.
Following the discovery of these communications, authorities moved swiftly to arrest Thomas on June 28.
He was taken into custody on multiple charges, including engaging in sexual communications with a minor, inciting a child to participate in sexual activity, and encouraging a child to observe sexual acts.
Additionally, his arrest was related to a breach of his existing sexual harm prevention order, which is designed to restrict and monitor the behavior of convicted sex offenders.
Subsequently, Daniel Thomas was formally charged and remanded in custody while legal proceedings continued.
His case was brought before Salisbury Crown Court, where he faced sentencing.
On Wednesday, the court handed down a sentence of four years and four months in prison, along with an extended license period of three years, which is intended to provide ongoing supervision and monitoring after his release.
PC Whittaker, a member of the Management of Sexual or Violent Offenders (MOSOVO) unit, commented on the case, emphasizing Thomas’s history as a repeat offender.
“Thomas is a repeat offender who has persistently targeted children and attempted to engage them in sexual activity,” he stated.
“Through actively managing his sexual harm prevention order, we were able to monitor his behavior and implement a decoy which allowed us to successfully bring this prosecution and protect children from him.” Detective Inspector David Wells from the SWROCU’s Online Investigations Team also highlighted the dangers posed by Thomas’s actions.
“The repeated attempts by Daniel Thomas to engage young children in sexual activity online demonstrate the high level of risk he posed,” he said.
“The sentence handed down this week reflects that danger.
This work is challenging but essential.
Law enforcement agencies across the internet are committed to ensuring offenders like him do not succeed in abusing and exploiting children.
It is also crucial for parents and children to take proactive steps to safeguard themselves against such threats.”
